| Elvis is Back! 25 years ago, Elvis
passed away, but his records keep coming back. A new release on RCA called "
A Little Less Conversation" was originally released in 1968 for the film "
Live A Little, Love A Little". It was never a
hit because Elvis has access to stronger material at that time, however, a
Dutch deejay remixed the track and it was a hotshot debut on the billboard
top 100 at #50
Speaking of hot shots, I've been tuning in to Wes
Montgomery`s Mornings of CFCW lately. In these days of global uncertainty
it's comforting to know that Wes is still there every morning, entertaining
early risers with his humor, his insights and his special personality. Wes
and I began our broadcasting careers in Lloydminster in 1959, and it doesn't
seem like only yesterday. Congratulations Wes on hangin' in where so many
have bitten the dust. Wes is now the "Iron Man" on the Edmonton airwaves
doing his thing for over thirty years. Like his good buddy Tim McGraw says,
"Lord have mercy on my next thirty years". If there were an Edmonton
Bradcasters Hall of Fame, Wes would be in on the first ballot.
Lloydminster is also now the new home of Colleen
Valentine formerly of the Telemedia Group, who have a network of stations in
rural BC and Alberta. Coleen is the new Program Director and Morning Host at
CKSA Radio. I know Coleen is going to do a lot of good for the station and
the community in the Border City.
Uncle Lew Roskin, legendary broadcast figure in
Edmonton was telling me the other day about a conversation he had with Leo
Durocher, the Baseball Hall of Famer. Durocher, who managed the
Yankees, New York Giants, Chicago Clubs and the Houston Astros, has always
been quoted as initiating the phrase, "Nice guys finish last". However, in
his meeting with Uncle Lew, he emphatically
denied ever having said that. Another myth
shattered. Well sports fans, I guess that now means nice guy can finish
first.
