My Friends and I decided to take a road trip to Calgary for Canada Day July 1st. We parked a Eau Clair Market and made our way over to Prince's Island to watch Todd Kerns live on stage. We finally  found where he was scheduled to play, there was a HUGE stage, and many people scattered all over the grass. Soon after we arrived, we ran into fellow Edmontonians and other Todd Kerns fans ( from Calgary, Kelowna, etc).

Finally Todd came out on stage and started playing guitar and singing songs such as "Ugly", "Enya", "Before My Time", and an awesome new song " Broken Record" ( which is actually an old song that he's finally letting us here now). Reed ( from Zuckerbaby, and formally of Smash LA) came up on stage and joined him for a cover of "Here Comes The Sun" (which Todd dedicated to the memory of George Harrison & John Entwistle). Todd also did a wicked cover of David Bowie's "

We had a blast! I got a kick out of the little kids dancing in front of the stage, one boy was shouting out requests to sing "Sammy Hagar" for his mom. It was really cute. The show overall was laid back, yet lots of fun.

Once the set was finished, Todd came out and greeted us all. After a few hugs and laughs, we headed back on our trip home. Check out Todd's new website at www.toddkerns.com.

I managed to take in a little bit of Klondike Days this year, including Bif Naked's set. By the time we arrived, Gob was already on stage. during this time, we checked out the exhibits inside the Agricome. As soon as Bif started playing, we made our way through the crowd ( which was enormous) over to the side to catch a glimpse. It was cool to see Scotty "Sex" ( drummer of Static in Stereo ) beating the skins for Bif. I can't believe the energy that woman has, it totally blew me away. She was wearing a short jean skirt and a white tank top. Needless to say, she flashed her white undies more than a few times.

the crowd ranged from pre-teens to seniors, with the majority being in their late teens or early twenties. The crowd behaved typically for an outdoor show. You had the moshers, the crowd surfers and of course the girls dancing atop their boyfriends shoulders. Bif belted out hits ranging from old to new such as "Daddy's Getting Married", "Moment of Weakness", "Spaceman" , "I Love Myself Today", Tango Shoes" etc... She ended the night with her killer cover of Twisted Sister's Classic " We're Not Gonna Take It" in which she brought audience member up on stage, to dance around and sing along. Everyone in the audience chanted along, as fireworks illuminated the sky above, it was awesome!

Coming this month: Billy Idol play the Jubilee an August 1, Edwin & The Pressure play Red's August 7th, Danko Jones is at the Likwid Lounge August 8th, The New Ponographers play the Rev August 14th, The Misfits are at Red's August 17th, shaggy is at the Joint August 22nd, Morrisey plays Red's on the 27th, and Bob Dylan plays the Skyreach Centre August 27th.
