On the radio airwaves, Mix 96
Edmonton has evolved into “The new sound of 96.3 The Mix”. Mornings on
The Mix will be hosted by BJ Wilson and Shannon Tyler. Shannon has most
recently been the host and producer of “Wired”, a daily arts and
entertainment show seen province-wide in Alberta on A-Channel.
The Mix also unveiled the new
“Mix Studio on Whyte” in the heart of Whyte Avenue. The music has
evolved into a pure Hot AC / Adult CHR sound. There were also some
corporate changes at the Edmonton Radio Group. (MIX 96 and 97.3 K-ROCK)
will operate under the management of GM Al Anderson.
The Alberta Radio Group will
consist of 790 CFCW and all of the radio stations in the existing
Network. It will operate out of the same offices and studios as the
Network which covers nearly all of rural Alberta with a total of 15
radio stations and four repeaters and will operate under the guidance of
GM Mike Fawcett. The entire News Department and all CFCW Edmonton
programming and promotions staff will move into the newly renovated
offices on Gateway Boulevard as will the entire CFCW sales department.
There were also some changes
at 630 CHED in Edmonton. Allison Bailer has been named afternoon news
anchor, co-hosting with veteran anchor Warren Henderson. Kristina
Drapeau leaves her post in the newsroom to start teaching radio news at
the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Cool 880 (CHQT) has just
announced a change to their air staff. Ed Mason announced the new lineup
that has long time Edmonton DJ Chuck Chandler now on AM Drive, replacing
Ron Clark, who moves to PM Drive, replacing PD Randy Marshall. Randy
moves to mid-days, replacing Greg James, who returns to weekends.
Former CFRN PD Steve Moore is
doing PM Drive at EZ Rock 104.9.
Meanwhile, CKUA hopes to
fulfill their March 2001 license renewal commitment to go all night
"hopefully within a couple of months", says Program Director Brian
Dunsmore. Unfortunately, they have been saying that for the last two
years.
The Recording Industry
Association of America, the barometer for the music industry, reported
compact disc sales fell 7% in the first six months of this year versus
last year. Growing use of the internet in downloading music has
undermined sales.
