Some great things | Category: | Editorials (Lori-Lynn) | | Published Date: | April 2003 | |
CommentsSome great things have been happening to a good friend of mine recently, and I’m so excited for him, I just have to write about it. I’m speaking of the one and only Todd Kerns of "Age of Electric" & "Static in Stereo" fame.
Todd has been a very busy man as of late. He’s currently recording his own solo cd titled "12 Unanswered Messages", producing each of three girls’ cd’s: Sabrina Korva, Magdalena, and Jenny Galt as well as Vancouver bands "Superbeing" and "The Flairs". The Flairs was formed by Dawn Mandarino (vocals/guitar) and drummer Jen Foster both formerly of Tuuli. They relocated to Vancouver from Toronto, and teamed up with guitarist Gillian Hanna (Bif Naked), and her brother Ryan on bass. Todd and Dawn have been a couple for sometime now, and on Valentines Day, Todd proposed to Dawn while being interviewed on Vancouver‘s rock radio station The Fox, she said yes! Congratulations Todd and Dawn! Best wishes for a happy rockin' life together!
In the summer of 2002, Todd teamed up with Reed Shimizoa (Zuckerbaby, Smash LA) and recorded a cd under the name of "TKO"…Todd Kerns Oddity. Their song "Gotta Go" has appeared on a compilation in Calgary and has earned them airplay on stations such as C-Jay, The Bear and the Fox. There are plans to release a cd this summer.
A very exciting opportunity has presented itself to Todd recently. Guns N’ Roses’ members Slash, Duff, Matt & Izzy have formed a new band called "The Project". They are currently auditioning vocalists, and Todd has been invited to try out. Late in 2002, he was sent three songs and he was to write the lyrics, record the vocals, and send them back. He did so in December, but no decision has been made as of yet. Other vocalists who have tried out, are Sebastian Bach, Kelly Shaefer and Travis Meeks (Days of the New). Todd told me that he was honored to even try out. He also recently mentioned that the auditions have been put on hold, as the guys have decided to turn the selection process into a VH1 reality TV show. I hope Todd gets lots of exposure and receives the recognition he deserves, and I wish him best of luck with the audition.
