Survival is the Name of the Game
CommentsHave you ever felt the need to get away from your television and watch something really entertaining? Something unpredictable and not plot driven like those bad sit-coms that Hollywood produces? Do you want to get out for a night – even for an hour - and enjoy yourself with friends in a relaxed environment with live entertainment?
If your answer is ‘Yes’ or even if it is ‘No’, what I am about to tell you is a definite must see for the Edmonton Arts Community fans. Ok. Are you ready? Survivor Improv is the best! Use this as a mantra when you’re wondering what to do on an early Friday Night. It’s worth going to vent off steam, spend time with friends, and have a great laugh!
Yup, just like the television show of not so long ago – but with a twist. This one has the audience pitching in! One Host, Two teams of 5 players each every Friday. Four teams playing off every month to find out which team is the best. The final week of every month you get to see a long form improv – just like hour-long sitcom/action films – but right in front of you! This past week we were entertained by a great Pirate Movie theme. No Guff. A Pirate Improv. Last Month was the Science Fiction stage adaptation of – Star Wars Meets Star Trek Babylon 5. Who knows what will happen next month?
A large group of talent to pool into teams, the never-ending antics and theatre work from this group is something beyond words. Scott C. Bourgeois, Paul Wallace, Randy Brososky, Laurie Schwartz, Devon R. Bruce, Ian Horobin, Diego Ibarra, Steven Weller and Roger C. Jorgenson are some of the bigger names that theatre buffs in the city will recognize. With this bunch, add people who are rather new to the improv/acting scene – but wow! Can these people perform! From a chemical engineer to a teacher, a carpenter and various other careers, these people pour out their hearts and souls on stage for slapstick comedy, some heavy work, and DAMN GREAT IMPROV. And for Five bucks, you can’t go wrong!
Every Friday night from 9:15 until 10:30ish some of the best talent in the city teams up for a live game of Survivor. Two years in the running, Jagged Edge Lunch Box Theatre’s Survivor Improv is right downtown in Edmonton Centre East – Third Floor.
Shakespeare Plug – Those of you who enjoy Shakespeare and the ‘classics’ of drama, start tuning in to CJSR 88.5 FM Radio every Tuesday Night from 7 until 8pm. Concluding this week, Julius Caesar wraps up, followed by: Antony & Cleopatra starting April 29th at 730pm and runs until 13th May. May 20th sees the premiere of Cymbeline, the King of Britain! Stay tuned! Listen in, and enjoy!
