He’s been a popular Council Member in Edmonton for years and when it comes to taking the time to promote either boxing or baseball in our town, Ron Hayter is always up to the task. Along with his position on Council, Ron still holds his title of Chairman of Edmonton’s International Baseball Foundation and just held a third press conference on April 30 relating to the upcoming 2004 World Cup of Women’s Baseball.
One of the developments relating to the World Championship Tournament is the appointment of two local gals as Ambassadors for the 2004 games. Betty (Carveth) Dunn and Mildred (Warwick) Mcauley merit this honor having both played in “A League of Their Own” for the Rockford Peaches of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League that ran from the 1940’s to 1950’s. I talked with both Mildred and Betty and both are excited about their selection and are looking forward to the tournament next summer. Good Luck Ron and I hope the weather is in your favour.
Summer is around the corner and the Whitemud Amusement Park is in action once again. I can’t think of another place to go with the family where everyone can join in the fun…bumper boats,, batting cages, mini-golf, kids rides, video arcade and of course the Go-Carts! Their open from 11am to 10pm and you’ll find them just off the Whitemud on 75 Street.
Are you listenin’ Craig MacTavish…you’re one of the lucky coaches in the NHL. Why? The fans want you (me included), Kevin Lowe wants you, Cal Nichols and the ownership group want you and the Oilers players and staff want you. I feel with the talent you have and the addition of a few new faces and of course with a little better production from the power play, you have a real shot at being a Stanley Cup contender next season. From this corner Craig, I don’t think there is a club in the NHL that wants and needs you as much as the Edmonton Oilers do. Here’s looking forward to seeing you on the Oilers bench again in 2003/04 and hopefully longer.
