CommentsREJUVENATION OF THE SOUL
The old adage "Spring has Sprung" always brings to my mind a picture of my Mom airing out the house, snow drifts still melting on the lawn, kids wrestling on the brown grass. Everyone is literally brushing winter blues out the door. The back porch gets scrubbed down and the winter boots put away for another season.
What about you? What do you remember? What senses come alive with the word "Spring"? Spring to some may mean a new coat of paint in the kitchen , or a new pair of rubber boots. To car buffs it means cleaning the car with extra special care, wax the winter salt away. To gardeners and farmers it means promise and waiting to be able to get into the dirt. This is the season of new life--- calves, lambs, chicks.
As I celebrate the coming of this new season I watch for signs from above--- meaning flying formations of Canadian geese. Their honking overhead is the signal that all is well in the world. They are determined to reach those northern nesting grounds. Have you ever noticed that in spring they have organized and straight "V’s"-- full of energy and purpose. In the fall when they return they straggle and fall behind, their groups play leisurely ragtag leap frog. Today we saw swans resting in puddles of water in a muddy field. Their white necks looked like sticks protruding from the water.
Do you notice how the sunshine puts broader smiles on peoples faces? The blue Alberta skies give folks a lighter step. They don’t hesitate to look you in the eye and say "Good Morning". And the weather is talked about everywhere you go. The phrase "Gorgeous Day" becomes the standard greeting. Truly amazing what sunshine can do for the soul.
One of my favorite spots to soak in the feel of spring is the bulb display at Muttart Conservatory. To sit and bask in the sights and smells of the flowers is wonderful, it must be a little piece of heaven. Take in big breaths of the hyacinth scent, best perfume in the world. Daffodils and tulips fill the room. Brings a soul a sense of calm and peace. Relax and rejuvenate. Let your senses soak it all in.
Spring is the season when we have hope and promise for the remainder of the year. This is when we think of those New Year’s resolutions, and think "Yes, I can do it". And so as we each partake in our own way of rejoicing in the season, slow down and enjoy the rejuvenation of your soul. And my very best advice is ‘share it with a friend’.
