SCANNERS UNITE

Hear ye, Hear Ye!!!  Calling all Scanners!  Tis time to come out of the woodwork and take a stand!  Yes, it is time to stand up and be recognized.

What, you ask, is a scanner?  You could call us "jack of all trades". You can call us the "movers and shakers".  Scanners are the folks who like to try every opportunity that comes along.  Eager to take on new endeavors and challenges.  We ask questions and explore new situations, searching for indepth information and gathering experiences along the way.  We jump at the chance to try something new.  Our eyes light up and we become somewhat giddy with glee, anticipation rising. We are a very select group of individuals

.Beware, you probably work with one or two of us.  You'll recognize us after reading this article--- but please, don't be alarmed. We are not a cult or a revolutionary organization, nor will we kidnap your children, whisk them away.  We do not partake in any brain washing.  In fact I've found from previous experience, after learning more about scanning,  most people tend to be a bit envious. Our enthusiasim is contagious.

For a long time I felt like something was wrong with me.  Why did I want to move on after mastering the skills?  Why was I not satisfied to stay and acquire a lifetime service award?  Why do I have such a thirst for knowledge?  And why am I eager to move on to other positions?  After searching for answers and talking to others I have come to realize I'm not alone in this quandary.  There are several of us out there who will accept any new challenge and move onwards.

I have also come to the realization that a 'scanner' is not a bad thing--- it's a great thing. My daughter once asked me why I couldn't find anything I liked --- my reply was "It's not that I didn't like my previous positions, it is just that I wanted to learn something new". I would rather be known for my courage to change, for my willingness to adapt to new industries  and my knowledge of so many different types of work.

Along the way I have made new friendships and connections well worth keeping. The trick to moving on is to never 'burn any bridges' behind you.  Move forward with grace and kindness.  Be patient with those who don't understand what you're all about.  And also be patient with yourself  while learning new skills.  Be kind to others.  One never knows when one of those 'bridges' may be your next connection.  Always be ready when the door of opportunity knocks!!

I believe many of the great explorers and scientists have been scanners.  They were eager to find new horizons and test new theories, travel down unfamiliar roads and explore fresh territory.

So, I say  once again   "Scanners, Stand Up and Be Counted"    Be known for your courage and sense of adventure--- Go forth and enjoy each opportunity.  Spread your knowledge.  Light a new fire.  Don't be afraid to tell others you are a scanner.

I am a scanner ---- and proud of it!
