Do you have a strong sense of adventure? Are you always the first in you "gang" to instigate a trek up a mountain, a sky diving expedition, or a cage less dive with the sharks? Did you know you can also use your strong sense of adventure to enhance your homes décor?
Real style, happens only after the rules have been broken. Adventurous souls thrive on electric rooms - rooms that dare to break the rules. They will bring together materials from different sources, cultures and eras. Rooms that come to life with an endless variety of textures, colours and patterns. This is real style, this is the style of an adventurer.
Never be afraid to try something new - live for the moment. If you love something you can always make it work. It sounds crazy, but the best rooms all have two things in common - that is, they don't adhere to one particular style and they are not pure in any particular sense of design or style. Inside an adventurer's head is an infinite list of possibilities.
There are endless possibilities of colour combinations and new things to add to a room to bring it to life. An adventure never stops mixing it up. To be predicable, is perhaps the worst possible scenario for a true adventurer. These souls are consistently throwing their cards (or décor) in the air to see how they fall, so to speak.
Key words to an adventurer's décor: playful, unexpected, dramatic and innovative.
So what's in an adventurers home?
Adventurers prefer larger spaces and will tend to avoid any space or items that will make them feel boxed in. But even in a smaller space there will be lots of amusing and unexpected finds. They will also decorate to give the greatest sense of open space. At home, an adventurer does not seek peace and sanctuary; instead they are more likely to be seeking stimulation. Does this sound like you, or is it maybe that you simply wish to bring more adventure into your life?
Ideas?
Use bold colours - colours that are opposite to each other on the colour wheel. Mix and match bold patterns and cultural pieces. Don't be afraid to use the unexpected and the whimsical. Try putting garden statues in the foyer, hand paint marble table tops, glaze your walls red or hand block fabrics and vibrant silks.
Home decorating is certainly an adventure and can bring out the adventurous spirit in all of us. Take on a no holds barred attitude and allow your adventurous spirit to help you bring personality and life to your rooms. The key to an adventures room is flexibility - always ready to make a change or room for the next idea.
