CommentsOne of wrestling's most infamous bad guys, or if you prefer the other labels-knave, scoundrel, cad, ruffian, villain, rogue, hood, rapscallion, miscreant, and brute- would have to be Alberta's own, Canadian Pro Wrestling Hame of Famer, Archie Gouldie. Of course you remember, “The Stomper.” He inflicted his boot-heel pain to the heads of wrestling wannabees on his way to Stu Hart-belt glory. Unfortunately, an unglorious and nasty heel spur can inflict pain on even the toughest dude around.
POPSICLE STICK JAB Heel spurs feel like Abdullah the Butcher sticking his popsicle stick into the heel of your foot. The pain is usually right on the heel bottom and can spread into your arch or Achilles. Usually, the first step onto your floor in the morning hurts the worst. As you get moving it may ease up, but later in the day, especially after trying to sneak in a lunchtime jog or game of squash, it can begin to hurt all over again.
TURNBUCKLE HURT While heel spurs may contribute to the pain and discomfort, the real reprobate can be a strain and inflammation of the plantar fascia of your foot. The fascia is particularly subject to extra stresses on its attachment to the heel because of the amount you spend standing on hard surfaces such as cement and asphalt, because of bio-mechanical imbalances in your foot and Achilles tendon, and also because of the way we walk and run. And of course, getting slammed into the turnbuckle foot first also can put some major hurt into your heel.
SHOCKING RSWT RELIEF If you have been getting stomped by chronic heel pain and have not had much success with conventional treatments such as medication, exercise, rest, cortisone injections, and orthotics, you may be a candidate for Radial Shock Wave Therapy (RSWT). RSWT is a revolutionary new treatment for the reduction and elimination of chronic heel spur pain. This state-of-the-art technology utilizes a high-tech device to deliver pneumatically-generated supersonic shock waves which travel through the skin to inflammed soft tissue and bone calcifications. The high energy pulses of ultrasonic waves stimulate the body's natural self-healing process.
STOMP ON DOWN Most people require only three (3) RSWT treatment sessions, each one taking approximately 5-10 minutes. Treatments are typically performed by physical therapists who are university graduates with extensive training in the assessment and treatment of musculo-skeletal problems like plantar fasciitis. If your lowlife heel has been keeping you down for the three-count on the mat, stomp on down to your physical therapist or doctor, and they will determine if you are a candidate for RSWT. And if you are, you just might put the boots to your heel pain once and for all.
