City of Edmonton
City of Edmonton requires all people who sail "TOY" or R/C sailboats to require a "permit". If you do not have a permit , you are subject to a fine of $100.00 An Email has been sent to the City of Edmonton councillors asking for a review of policy bylaw 9425. There is no bylaw against sailing a TOY sailboat or R/C Sailboat in any City of Edmonton pond. We are awaiting a response from them. - Breaking News Dec 2007
Festival Events
We have received a response from the "RIVER DAY" festival rangers, and it appears they would like us to attend (barring the permit issue). They wish for us to come under the banner of "RIVER DAY" . We will have a meeting on this proposal since it affects how our sponsors submit there donations. - Wishing for Good Health for Mike Burke

Once again
Read the following Presidents Message PDF, and make your conclusions. E.R.C.S.A. is asking for a General Permit for sailing. I urge all Hobby Shops, Members and other sailing associations to inquire about this prejudicial permit rule. city_of_edmonton_sailing.jpg - More info re: Jan 2008 Permits
Once again, and again
Received a phone call from Danae Kortman-Watts , Special Event Liaison , Civic Events Office - Corporate Services - 780-496-4871. I was informed that we do not fall under bylaw 9425 but bylaw 2202. I asked again for a general "ALL- Encompassing" sailing permit for our group.
At first I was requested to have the names of all members, so that each member would be in possession of a permit I denied, then was asked to provide first names, I denied, then I was asked which lakes, I supplied the information. In the end E.R.C.S.A. received a general permit for sailing in the City of Edmonton Parkland lakes.
Question, now is it E.R.C.S.A. responsibility to inform the public about this bylaw, or must Johnny , with his Christmas present be hassled when he wants to sail?
Read the bylaw , make up your own mind. The City of Edmonton is definitely up to their necks in bureaucracy. These permits, I was informed, are to control the usage and monitor the Parkland. Enjoy enforcing this ridicules waste of manpower at City of Edmonton residents expense. Larger city centres such as New York, Vancouver, Island of Hawaii , Salt Lake City and more allow "wind powered" MODEL sailboats to enjoy the lakes. Sherwood Park, has a great attitude, they want us there to show another aspect of enjoyment on the lakes. Why are we a backwards city and must control a hobby that enhances a park and does not create noise?
